Rug Pull · pulling the rug

A scam in which a project's creators suddenly withdraw liquidity and disappear.

In a rug pull, the team behind a project (usually a token or a fledgling DeFi project), after raising capital from users, suddenly withdraws the liquidity pool and drives the token's value to nearly zero.

The best way to guard against this is carefully checking the founding team, whether liquidity is locked, and the credibility of the smart contract before investing in unknown, unproven projects.
